Dressing Up Plaid

October 5, 2019

Look, we all know that a plaid shirt is a staple for fall, right? This shouldn’t be a shock to anyone, and if it is, hi, yes, hello, welcome to 2019. But guys—and please don’t hate me for saying this—I’m a little over them this year. OK, maybe “over” them is too strong of an expression. Allow me to explain….

Regardless of all the shade I realize I literally just threw, I actually do love a good plaid. As both a total basic bitch and a 90s grunge-loving chick, I love pulling out my flannels for the full spectrum of style they represent. But that’s the catch…I feel like no one takes advantage of their insane versatility! I see cute plaids rocked the same way over and over again…skinny jeans, cute booties, a great cardigan…you know the drill.

And don’t get me wrong, this is an adorable outfit and one that I would totally wear myself, but I don’t necessarily think it’s anything special or—and here’s that word again—inspirational. We’ve all seen it done before. It’s cute and all, but it doesn’t make me want to stop a girl and tell her she’s a fly-ass honey, ya know what I mean? Maybe it’s that little part of me that always has to be a bit extra, but the idea of breaking away from the norm and pairing my plaid with some (faux) fur and leather instead of a cutesy sweater and jeans just sounds soooo much more appealing.

Now, would I wear this to the local pumpkin patch for some daytime fall activities? Probs not. But to a fun night out for drinks with the girls or a haunted hayride/spooky date night with the Hubs? You betcha. And honestly, if the idea of doing both “fauxs” is too much for you, swap out the leggings for some black denim or the fur vest for a chunky sweater. I won’t be mad, I promise. All I ask is that you at least try to jazz it up a little bit, OK?

How else do you guys like to elevate your plaid pieces? Are you all about dressing up your more casual pieces to get the most out of them, or do you like your stuff to “stay in its own lane” so to speak, haha? I think my stance on this is obvious: #teamnolane. I hope you all have a wonderful Saturday and thanks so much for stopping by!
